The public's opinion regarding TWICE Sana's controversy is sharply divided.

TWICE member Sana is under fire for her post on TWICE's official SNS account on April 30th where she said in Japanese, "As a person born in the era of Heisei, it was a lonely day today but I tried my best. Let's make the last day of 'Heisei' a clean day and have a fresh start."

Her post was referring to the "Heisei Era" when Emperor Akihito, the 125th Japanese king abdicated the throne. April 30, 2019 officially marked the last day of the Japanese Imperial "Heisei" era when Akihito abdicated the throne after 30yrs and 3 months and his son subsequently succeeded him.

Netizens are criticizing the girl group member because Japan never apologized for the past and as a member of the representative idol group in Korea TWICE, her reference to the Japanese age and the emperor's abdication is very controversial. According to netizens, it's especially controversial because she made the post in their official Japanese TWICE account.

Other netizens are pointing out that her post shouldn't be an issue because "she's merely mentioning a moment in history and that King Akihito maintained a friendly attitude with Korea."

JYP Entertainment has yet to make an official statement on the issue.
