SBS 'Midnight' aired its weekly broadcast on the 30th and on this specific episode, they discussed the ongoing controversy involving Big Bang member, Daesung. Daesung is under controversy for letting illegal businesses run in his Gangnam building. These businesses are also under suspicion of tax evasion, drug distribution and prostitution.
A real estate expert who guested on the program said, "Daesung's statement that he didn't know just doesn't make sense. Before purchasing a building, buyers will tour the facilities as well as discuss contracts involving tenants in the building." He also addressed the tax evasion suspicions stating, "Entertainment establishments like room salons and clubs are subject to really high property taxes. If they registered the business as a "general restaurant" at time of acquisition then suspicions of tax evasion are high."
A lawyer that guested on the program said, "Even if the landlord knows that a business is operating illegally as a "general restaurant," criminal punishment will be difficult. But if the business owner arranges for prostitutes for its customers and the owner doesn't exercise his management responsibility, the act of acquiescence is punished severely under the law. The landlord could be subject to a 7-yr prison term with a fine of up to 7 million won."
