Will the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) be held in Hong Kong once again this year?
An Mnet official stated Monday afternoon that "there is no confirmation yet" where the "2019 MAMA" will be held in the second half of the year.
Currently, the city of Hong Kong is rife with protests due to the extradition bill that calls for criminals to be expatriated to mainland China. With protests continuing repeatedly, officials are considering whether they can hold the event there. According to the official, "they have yet to finalize a venue."
The MAMA Awards have been held in Hong Kong from 2012-2018 with the event being expanded to 3 cities (South Korea, Thailand, and Japan) in 2018. Due to the volatile situation currently, many are paying attention as to whether Mnet will host this year's event in Hong Kong.
