Former Girls Generation member Jessica is being sued for 2 billion won.
Jessica lost two lawsuits with former Chinese management agencies and her agency has filed for an appeal with the Supreme Court.
Her agency Coridel Entertainment released their official stance on the 21st stating,
"Coridel signed a transfer contract with two Chinese management agencies to manage Jessica's promotions in China. Per the contract, the two agencies in China were obligated pay Coridel a specified consulting fee as well as payments from Jessica's Chinese promotions. Jessica was very active in China up until 2016 when THAAD incident began and the Chinese agencies used this as an excuse to default on the payments. As a result, Jessica stopped promotions in China.
Afterwards, the Chinese agencies asked for arbitration to resolve the issues and even though our trust had been betrayed we cooperated with their requests. We asked at minimum for payments due from Jessica's past promotions but they refused. As a result, we had no choice but to nullify the contract in October 2016. The Chinese agencies didn't respond to the nullification until 2017 when they suddenly filed for arbitration for unfair contract termination and requested cancellation fees and return of profit payments. They also falsely asserted that we were the ones that violated the contract first.
In the past, arbitration decisions made in a foreign country are enforced via a lawsuit but nowadays those decisions can be approved through a simple arbitration process. We took steps to prevent the agencies from filing this application but due to limitations and despite our vigorous fight in court we lost the first and second lawsuits. However, we believe in Korea's justice system and know the truth will prevail. As a result, we have filed for an appeal with the Supreme Court."
