A netizen is alleging that he was "romance scammed" by an idol-turned-streamer."
The netizen nicknamed "Monk Mung' (A) on Afreeca TV revealed on the 1st, "I was scammed out of 1 billion won (~$1,000,000) by a famous idol-turned-BJ' (B) through a romance scam." [Romance scams are fraud methods where the victim expresses favor to the fraudster online who demands money from the victim after building trust].
The netizen had spared no cost in his efforts to romance B and thanks to his efforts, B's broadcasts did well every day. He tuned in to all her live broadcasts and sent her over 700,000,000 won (~$670,000) in "balloons" (Afreeca TV virtual currency). He also gave her gifts like necklaces, shoes, bags, and moving costs worth over 300,000,000 won (~$270,000).
One day, netizen A asked idol streamer B about "a serious future together" and B said, "I've never thought of that between us. I only saw you as a close oppa."
A wrote about his frustrations saying, "How can someone, for a year, share with a man she has no care for, her personal phone number (not just broadcast phone number), personal home address and even let him accompany her to her apartment door, send him an intimate pic of her legs and tell him you want to live with him in 3 years and even introduce him to your mother?" He then shared all the katalks sent between them.
He concluded, "I don't want to get a refund on the star balloons or the gifts I sent her. I'm writing this to avoid another victim like me. I hope this person will not play with other people's emotions and I'll be filing a lawsuit against her for defrauding me."
The article went viral online and even though the netizen didn't reveal the alleged idol-turned-BJ's name, netizens speculated that the alleged BJ 'B' is former Crayon Pop member Ellin.
Ellin has since then switched her Instagram account to private.
