'Burning Sun' MD that filmed and circulated rape videos has been sentenced in court.
According to reports, Burning Sun MD 'A' who was indicted for charges of violating Special Act on Punishment of Sexual Assault Crimes underwent his first trial on the 12th and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison and four years probation. He was also found innocent of illegal filming of the man in the video and excluded from sex offender registration as victim was not a minor.
Judge Kim Yong Chan stated, "The victim's mental distress is likely to be extremely severe because of the footage filmed and distributed to an unspecified number of people against her will. However, I took into account all the conditions of the sentence including the defendants acknowledgement and reflection on his faults, lack of prior history, age, and environment," he explained.
A was forwarded to prosecution in August 2018 for secretly filming a man and woman having sex at a VIP restroom on the second floor of the Club and sharing the video on a katalk chatroom. The video spread quickly in online communities and overseas early last year as the woman in the video appeared unconscious arousing suspicions of drug sex crimes at the club.
The prosecution has appealed the sentence and an appeals trial is scheduled for the 17th.
