The backlash towards 'Seolganghwa (Snowdrop)' is spreading faster than 'Joseon Exorcist.'
In less than one day, a Blue House petition posted on the 19th to cancel the drama's airing has surpassed 300,000 signatures. This is faster than SBS' 'Joseon Exorcist' that was canceled after airing 2 episodes following its history distortion scandal earlier in March.
Heungil Furniture, who had sponsored 'Snowdrop' announced they have cut ties with the drama after its second "history distortion" scandal writing, "We're sorry for our sponsorship of 'Seolganghwa.' We're a simple small business without a marketing or management team. We don't have any manpower to proceed. Our sponsorship did not include any financial gain. We have requested the drama to promptly remove any of our furniture or related sponsorship matters."
Ganisong, one of the costume sponsors also wrote, "We prepared costumes for Blackpink Jisoo who's a global star and appears as a college student in the drama set in the 1980s. We've only previously worked with 'Sky Castle.' Since the drama was pre-produced, there's no way for us to completely prevent exposure however we'll continue to take measures to reduce exposure of our products and costumes as much as possible."
Sarijae Village who sponsored the rice cakes eaten by female lead Yeong-ro (Jisoo) in its first episode stated, "It was our first request for a sponsorship so we thought it would be great publicity for our company but we have also joined the petition."
Do Pyungyo, a sponsor of Hans Electronics and Ceramics also stated, "We apologize for causing concern by not paying close attention to our sponsorship since we're a small-scale company. We have posted a notice requesting sponsorship termination."
Blancshaw, who was also named as an alleged sponsor retorted, "We're requesting corrections through our lawyer to a broadcast where we were named as sponsors of 'Snowdrop' drama. If we suffer damages due to this error, we will hold them legally responsible."
Meanwhile, viewers are sharing leaked phone numbers of a list of companies that gave sponsorships or production support to 'Snowdrop' and are encouraging boycotts of the drama's sponsors.
- [+3,141, -810] The drama seems close to the facts..? The 586 movement is just shooting themselves in the foot by instigating malicious haters over this..
- [+1,543, -162] What kind of leftist nonsense ~ So why glorify North Korean protagonists as handsome and smart in other dramas and movies but somehow South Korean protagonists are deemed less inferior and denigrated as ugly characters and called "suspicious" etc..
- [+1,665, -333] So is this the "freedom of expression" they keep touting? Is this the way they're going to control our culture? It's a bit scary to see..
- [+1,328, -325] Hul ~ the level of the people in the country is scary now. I'm getting goosebumps.
- [+1,125, -168] This is the type of behavior you'd expect to see in dictatorships ever since 586 movement gained power. We need to rid this country of the dirty and disgusting progressive dictatorship ignorance..
- [+229, -20] So why weren't people uncomfortable watching a romance drama between a South Korean chaebol heiress and a North Korean general's son ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹. They're just trying to control everything at this point..
- [+174, -46] If they seriously cancel the drama over this, it's decisive proof that our country has become a communist nation. We can't stop it anymore..
- [+102, -6] No, are they seriously that pissed over this ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹?? But hey, it's ok to beautify North Koreans in dramas like Crash Landing of Love right?
- [+66, -4] So why didn't they boycott Crash Landing of Loveã…‹ã…‹ã…‹
- [+29, -1] The fact that 200,000 signatures got put up in less than a day...something definitely smells fishy. There's no way a petition would get this big even if it was such a huge issue in our country.
- [+26, -4] Even the title 'Seolganghwa' too...it's like the title of a Chinese drama..
