More details of actress Kim Sae-ron's drunk driving accident are pouring out.
According to Gangnam Police Station on the 18th, at around 8am, they were dispatched after multiple reports that a car was driving in staggered directions. It was discovered that actress Kim Sae-ron was driving in Cheongdam-dong and crashed into guard rails, a transformer, and a tree on the road more than 3 times. The impact was reportedly so strong that the front bumper of her car was thrown out.
Afterwards, eyewitness accounts were posted through social media and online communities and revealed that Kim Sae-ron hit an exposed transformer on the ground disrupting payment service at a nearby coffee shop and causing all traffic lights to malfunction. As a result, there were no traffic signals for vehicles, as well as pedestrian crossings causing huge inconvenience to citizens. The Korea Electric Power Corporation was rushed out for emergency repair work for about 2 hours.
A café official said, "It was difficult to pay by card because of a power outage in the vicinity in the morning. It has been restored after 9:30 and is operating as usual."
Another citizen said, "I witnessed the accident on the way to work at around 8:30 am. All the shops along the road near the accident site were in a state of blackout."
A site official said, "The traffic signal in the vicinity was paralyzed in the accident. We are recovering it as soon as possible."
After police caught Kim Sae-ron who was running away after getting rescued from the scene, they checked whether she was drunk through a detector and she tested positive. When police wanted to use a breathalyzer on site, Kim Sae-ron refused and asked to get her blood drawn instead. Currently, Kim Sae-ron has returned home with her guardian after completing investigations.
After the controversy broke out, her agency Gold Medalist told Sports Kyunghyang on the same day, "Kim Sae-ron took a blood test for an accurate result. After the test, she was sent home without any other investigation under her guardian's company. The results of the blood test are expected to come out in 2 weeks. Kim Sae-ron will faithfully respond to police's requests in the future."
Kim Sae-ron is currently scheduled to appear in Netflix drama 'Bloodhound' and SBS' 'Trolley' and it appears setbacks in the release and filming are inevitable.
A 'Bloodhound' official told Sports Kyunghyang, "We're currently filming. We'll adjust the filming and publicity schedules that will be announced as soon as it's settled after sufficient discussions."
A 'Trolley' drama official stated, "We haven't started filming yet. We're still checking with the actress."
Meanwhile, criticism over Kim Sae-ron's drunk driving, accident, fleeing the scene and refusing a breathalyzer for a blood test are pouring out. Many are stating that she should be apologizing first for causing such a huge scandal.
Kim Sae-ron's fandom also issued a statement and said, "It's just a mistake so don't be discouraged."
