(G)I-DLE's Jeon Soyeon is embroiled in further controversy over plagiarism.
On the 10th, TJ Karaoke announced that the contest song 'SUN' which was released on MBC's 'My Teen Girl' last February was registered. At the time, Soyeon and Pop Time were specified as the only first-time producers, but after the release, it was pointed out that some of the melodies were similar to ATEEZ's 'WAVE' chorus.
Afterwards, Eden-ary, the composer of 'WAVE' was added to the music site's composer list after Soyeon admitted to plagiarizing the song. In response, Eden-ary's agency KQ Entertainment stated, "There was no prior discussion with Eden-ary or us.." causing controversy.
Then, Soyeon's agency Cube Entertainment stated, "Immediately after the finale broadcast aired, through monitoring, we recognized the similarity of some melodies and the artist directly informed the composer about the situation and apologized."
"In that process, it was decided that credit revision needed to be completed since we had acknowledged the similarity so Soyeon consulted with the composer and requested a credit revision through the production company. One hour before it was set to to released, the producer's agency told us they opposed to this, but since the request to the production company had already been made, the song was released as is without the agency's opposition being reflected."
However, since then, Soyeon and Pop Time continue to be the only composers listed on her contest song 'SUN' that was later listed at a karaoke bar also excluding 'WAVE' composer Eden-ary.
