Blackpink Lisa's "tooth gem" fashion causes concern in Korea

The 'Tooth Gem' fashion is quickly gaining popularity in Korea.

Tooth Gem is a procedure that uses dental adhesive to attach jewels or cubic stones to the tooth surface. It's lighter than Grillz that take a dental model and cover the entire tooth with gold or silver denture-shaped decor and it's less burdensome in terms of treatment and cost therefore barrier entries are low.

While Grillz have a strong image as a 'flex' procedure, Tooth Gems are standing out as being more aesthetically pleasing. In fact girl group members like Blackpink Lisa, aespa Ning Ning, singer Lee Young-ji and Choi Ye-na are attracting attention by showing off cute 'Tooth Gems.'

However, voices of concern are pouring out about whether non-medical personnel can distinguish medicines well to prevent tooth damage. If acid caustics are abused, the risk to tooth damage increases and there's currently no medical research documenting risks when removing adhesives on teeth. The gems can also fall out while eating so you have to be careful not to accidentally split your teeth or swallow them while chewing. If food gets caught in the gaps, it can also cause tooth decay.
