'The Idol' that became a hot topic in Korea because of Jennie has been canceled.
On the 29th, local American media Variety reported that Season 2 of 'The Idol' will not be produced.
HBO stated, "The Idol has been one of HBO's most provocative original series and we are satisfied with the response from viewers."
'The Idol' was produced by famous pop artist The Weeknd and depicts relationships surrounding a rising pop idol and music industry world. Director Sam Levinson of 'Euphoria' fame directed and wrote the screenplay. The film was invited to 76th Cannes International Film Festival in the non-competitive section in May and was highly anticipated.
Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose Depp plays the lead role of Jocelyn and Jennie debuted as an actress by appearing as Dyanne, Jocelyn's friend and backup dancer.
While the Cannes invitation raised expectations, 'The Idol' that was praised for its high level from the trailer was embroiled in controversy from its first broadcast. Jennie appeared wearing a bra top and short shorts that were less than hand's length and performed an unconventional scene with male dancers.
In addition, other cast members were also criticized for nudity and provocative bed scenes.
