Singer-songwriter Maybee is embroiled in her mother's 'debt-too' controversy.
According to reports, her mother is accused of borrowing 50 million KRW ($~47,000) from lender 'A' in 2015 but failed to pay back the debt. Lender 'A' said, "Maybee's mother said she needed the money for her daughter's marriage so I deposited 50 million won in Maybee's account book. I've known Maybee's family for a longtime as we've lived in the same hometown for over 20 years and because her mom didn't have good credit I decided to help her. I have yet to receive my 40 million won back."
Earlier, the court confirmed that the money was not used for the marriage fund at the time in the fall of last year so they dismissed the lawsuit as it was difficult to determine if the person the funds were deposited to was actually Maybee. 'A' who hasn't received his money for over 4 years has now revealed in a press release that he will sue the singer for alleged fraud.
The singer spoke to Yonhap News on the 17th and released an official statement on the issue and said, "I'm sorry to worry you about this issue. In the middle of last year I learned about a complaint that my mother had borrowed money from an acquaintance of mine. I was pregnant at the time and didn't want to burden my husband or in-laws with the issue so I tried to resolve it with my own power and asked my mother. I trusted my mother's words that she would take care of it and she just told me this past March that she has yet to repay the debt. We're in the midst of paying it back. I'm really sorry to the victim."
Maybee married her actor husband Yoon Sanghyun in February 2015 and they have 3 children together.
