Channel A is under suspicion of violating the reporting code of ethics.
On the 9th, Channel A co-chairmen Kim Jae Ho and Kim Cha Soo attended a "re-approval" hearing held by the Korea Communication Commission (KCC) where they admitted "that the company had violated the reporting code of ethics out of greed for an exclusive and are in deep reflection."
During the hearing, the representatives admitted that, "it was true that a Channel A reporter had sent a letter to Lee Chul, the former CEO of Value Invest Korea and acted as the CEO's agent with the understanding that the reporter would be given an exclusive once the prosecution's investigation report was out. However, the company executives were not ware of the agreement nor did they approve of the tactics or the coverage. The executives did not check the inappropriate reporting process in advance."
They added, "the fact-finding committee is investigating the cell phone and laptop that we confiscated. We have obtained a recording that's currently under analysis as it differs from contents of the MBC report."
In addition, the representatives explained, "it's difficult to determine whether the official noted in the transcript was the chief prosecutor in the media as the reporter in question stated that he prepared the report based on what he heard from various legal professionals involved in other investigations."
KCC will make their final decision whether to re-approve Channel A after further review procedures.
- [+455, -58] They're just killing time acting like they're investigating. All they're doing is research. They'll just kiss up to the prosecutor, destroy the laptop and cell phone and take care of the transcripts on their own ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹
- [+343, -45] Cancel their re-approval
- [+175, -6] Don't they have an agreement with the reporter? Just watch they'll hold onto him...
- [+112, -6] Even a passing dog would laugh...that's how ridiculous this is..
- [+70, -4] It's all lies. They're just acting like they're investigating that reporter's cell phone. This is a trick for them to go in and clean everything off.
- [+72, -17] Cancel Channel A and all the other TV channels too. They're all the same.
- [+52, -4] Does anyone trust this? They're investigating with their own senior officials and won't even accept an outside investigation committee. Cancellation is the only answer..ㅉㅉ
