Police Chief accused of colluding with Seungri during Burning Sun investigations acquitted of all charges

The Seoul Central District Court has acquitted Police Chief Yoon of all charges.

According to a report by Segye, Senior Superintendent Yoon was booked for suspicions of covering up criminal activities of members in a chatroom after his name was mentioned several times as the "police chief" in a katalk chatroom involving former Big Bang member Seungri

Prosecution indicted Yoon on charges of violating the law on aggravated punishment of certain crimes including "abuse of authority" and "obstruction of exercise of rights" of Burning Sun investigations, violations involving Seungri's club 'Monkey Museum' with his business partner Yoo In Seok. He was also indicted on charges of destroying evidence after receiving tens of millions of won in stocks.

Yoon denied all charges during first trial stating, "I had nothing to do with Burning Sun club nor the alleged collusion with Seungri. I've always done my best to ensure the safety of the people and maintain order. It's already been 28 years since I made up my mind and threw myself into police work. I've never abandoned justice for personal or economic interests."

He added, "There is no way possible that I ever received tens of millions of won worth of stocks to cover up the incident. It's frustrating because police officers silently perform their duties on the front line. There needs to be strict punishment for damaging the pride and honor of police officers."

Prosecutors sought a three-year prison term and about 46 million won in fines however the court acquitted Yoon of all charges stating, "this does not appear to be a case where Yoon did something outside of his obligations as a police official or received stocks in exchange for mediation. The prosecution's testimony is also insufficient to convict him of alleged destruction of evidence but this does not mean that the accused is 100% innocent or that the indictment is not true."
