Prosecutors are reportedly investigating a lawyer that threatened an informant in iKON B.I's case.
According to a source within legal circles on the 1st, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Director Kim Ho-Sam) is investigating an incumbent lawyer who was representing informant B [Han Seo Hee] who reported suspicions of a cover up. The lawyer allegedly helped Yang Hyun Suk, former CEO of YG Entertainment to blackmail informant B. The regional investigation unit of the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency booked both Yang Hyun Suk and lawyer A and forwarded them to prosecution in April.
The lawyer A appointed as informant B's agent told B something to the effect of "it's better not to make a statement regarding B.I." Lawyer A is suspected of being involved in Yang's crime by preventing related statements during the police investigation process. At the time of investigation, police reportedly questioned how the lawyer was appointed as B's agent and police are said to have secured statements that lawyer A was appointed to defend B [Han Seo Hee] through introductions made by an acquaintance of YG.
Legal experts point out that if lawyer A's charges are confirmed to be true, it would be a serious violation of the lawyer's ethics. A senior spokesperson for the Korean Bar Association Huh Yoon stated, "the law stipulates that lawyers should not cover up the truth in performing their duties. It would be a serious violation of their duty."
Lawyer A told reporters in a phone interview that he couldn't discuss the case as its under investigation.
