**T/W** Article details racist rhetoric
Koreans are in deep anger over George Floyd protests in Seoul.
On the 7th, a post titled, "Only Asians are missing from the George Floyd Memorial Address" was shared on an online community. The author quoted African-American civil rights activist Al Sharpton's speech at the North Central University memorial held in Minneapolis on Monday for George Floyd. The author wrote, "Al Sharpton cited Martin Luther King's speech referring only to blacks, whites, Latinos, and Arabs. Even Arabs were added there but Asians were excluded."
Netizens shared comments on the post writing, "black people think they're the only ones being discriminated against. They ignore the blatant discrimination against Asians."
Koreans also shared similar reactions to the George Floyd memorial march held in Myeongdong on the 6th where protesters wore black masks and marched with pickets that stated "I can't breathe".
Lee (32), an office worker that studied in Canada stated, "If it's that important to get rid of racial discrimination we need to campaign to get rid of the discrimination itself. Black lives aren't the only ones that are important." In particular, many Koreans cited the discrimination against Asians and racist remarks made against Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese when the Coronavirus spread to Europe.
Koreans also cited racist behavior by Americans when an Asian woman in the U.S did not wear a mask. Netizens stated, "the same people that closed their eyes when Asians were being discriminated against are angry over the discrimination against black people."
Rapper Donutman shared on his Instagram on the 5th, "I know the movement is meaningful but why only protest racism against black people? #alllivesmatter."
- [+6,676, -97] They're really holding protests against black discrimination right now. When those same blacks are the ones looting Asian stores.
- [+6,186, -84] Blacks discriminate against Asians more than Whites do ㅋㅋㅋㅋ. Who should be caring about who?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
- [+5,592, -110] Do we have to do this in Korea? SEAs are also severely discriminated against;; Do you see them protesting for black rights? They don't care whether black people get killed! Yet we're holding protests against brutality of blacks when these barbaric criminals are the same ones looting our stores.
- [+258, -4] I lived in Canada for over a year and I can tell you black people are more racist than whites. You can see it especially when they stare at Asians on the streets. Black people should be the ones reflecting on how they treat us.
- [+245, -6] This is so ridiculousㅋㅋㅋㅋ. What does Floyd even have to do with us? Was he killed in our country? Didn't you see what happened in Hong Kong. We're protesting over something that has nothing to do with us. Why are Koreans holding protests over this.
- [+228, -5] Frankly speaking black people are great at playing both sides. They're the ones with the most criminal records and defy the police constantly. Have you seen any Americans killed in Korea? There's no need for us to do this. Only fools would show up.
- [+185, -0] Aren't they the ones lining up for meals but never show up to work?
