According to a report on the 21st, Ghanaian broadcaster, Sam Okyere has been selected as the PR ambassador for Korea-Africa Foundation, an affiliate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the photo released by the Foundation, Sam is seen smiling while wearing a blue traditional costume while holding his letter of appointment.
It has been 10 months since he appeared at an official event following his criticism of Uijeongbu High School students' parody of 'Kwanjjak Boys', a popular meme of Ghanaians dancing cheerfully with coffins for their graduation photos that he deemed racist. Sam stated, "This is very unpleasant behavior from point of view of black people. I get its a trend, but did they have to color their faces?" However, he used the words "ignorance" of Koreans and used hashtag "tea kpop" causing controversy.
In an interview with BBC, he stated, "I wasn't trying to be disrespectful to the students. I just wanted to point out these things are taboo in black and multicultural countries where there are many black faces."
He was also in further controversy after past photos from his appearance at JTBC's 'Abnormal Summit' became public and he was seen squinting his eyes like an Asian.
Later, it was also revealed that he made sexually harassing remarks after he commented on Park Eun-hye's photo comment on IG that said, "It's cute. Once you go black, you never go back" and he agreed writing, "preach" causing controversy.
