Crop tops are quickly becoming another source of controversy in Korea.
The root of the controversy is largely the same argument from the 90s when "belly button tee" became popular. Koreans think that "its embarrassing to see someone wearing a crop top in public."
Industry officials explain that crop tops are highly preferred by the MZ generation, who value their style and individuality and can be styled with various bottoms i.e wide pants, jogger pants or shorts. They also give a light feeling when worn and make legs look longer.
Idols like Blackpink's Jennie and Rose enjoy wearing crop tops and are leading the trend on SNS.
However, Koreans are against the trend arguing, "it's embarrassing. I have nowhere to put my eyes. I don't know where to look when someone wears a crop top and is revealing their belly in public."

- [+62, -8] It's cute to wear things like this when you're young and pretty in your 20s but once you hit your 30s it looks a mess walking around with your mid riff out.
- [+35, -7] They choose to wear that but then complain it's too cold and ask to turn down the air conditioning..
- [+29, -5] This is more acceptable than wearing mini skirts. What makes me angry is seeing girls that don't wear underwear when wearing skin tight leggings
