Former Big Bang member Seungri plans to appeal his 3 year prison sentence.
His lawyer spoke to Maeil Business and revealed in an exclusive report,"there is a plan to appeal."
His appeal is somewhat expected as he had denied all charges during the trial that lasted more than 10 months and there were no expectations that he would accept the judge's verdict as is.
The appeal has yet to be filed, however, according to military law, a verdict that results in imprisonment or fine must be finalized and a confirmation submitted. A certified copy of the judgement is required to be provided to the defendant [Seungri] within 10 days and he must file an appeal within 7 days from the date of receipt of the certified copy.
When the trial began, Seungri had a month left before his discharge date but his discharge has been put on hold after he was found guilty of 'Burning Sun' charges. As a result, his service date is calculated as a convicted prisoner but if he files an appeal before his discharge date, a 2nd trial will begin in the high military court, not civilian court.
Seungri was found guilty of all 9 'Burning Sun' charges and sentenced to 3 years in prison. According to the judge, "Seungri did not appear to have reflected on his wrongdoings and kept denying the crimes, changing statements and shifting responsibility therefore punishment was necessary."
