The aftermath of BTS V and BLACKPINK Jennie "follow" controversy is continuing to grow.
On the 6th, BTS members opened Instagram accounts for the first time and caused an uproar all over the world as fans clamored to follow their accounts showing off the group's immense popularity. Among them, V surpassed 20 million followers in just one day setting a world record for shortest time.
However, controversy followed after fans discovered that V followed Jennie's IG account and then canceled it. In response, V posted on Weverse, "Is there a way to get rid of IG recommendations? It's a scary app." Fans interpreted this to mean he accidentally followed Jennie.
Afterwards, malicious comments began pouring on Jennie's account accusing her of dating V. Fans terrorized her with abusive language and trended '#FREETAE' asking to "Let V go" in the comments.
But it did not stop there. Fans filled the comment section of Jennie's IG with "vomit" emojis expressing their anger causing fandom fights between BLACKPINK and BTS fans raising concerns.
But the aftermath did not stop there. Because of the "follow" controversy, dating rumors between Jennie and Big Bang's G Dragon as well as BTS V with chaebol daughter A were re-examined. It then became known that A had also followed the IG accounts of BTS members including V. HYBE had previously dismissed the rumors as "just acquaintances."
BTS members opened their IG accounts to communicate freely with ARMY however contrary to their wishes, anger, speculations, and rumors are now rampant and growing causing further controversy.
