Netizens are in deep outrage after Henry's appointment as an ambassador.
On the 17th, Monster Entertainment announced, "Henry recently held a ceremony to become an ambassador for school violence prevention at Mapo Police Station and will begin full-fledged activities."
Henry stated, "I like children so I've been creating various contents with young kids. It's an honor to be able to participate in bullying prevention in earnest like this. I'll make sure to do my best at all times."
However, after the announcement, bulletin board at Mapo Police Station was bombarded with posts criticizing Henry and the station. As of morning of the 18th, over 100 posts have been shared. One citizen wrote, "Why was 'pro-China' Henry selected as anti-bullying ambassador? I don't understand!"
Meanwhile, public opinion over Henry has been cold for a while now after he was caught in real-time deleting comments criticizing the Chinese. On February 21st, a number of articles were posted in online communities exposing Henry for deleting YouTube comments that criticized China while comments degrading Koreans saying "Korea is a 'small' country" were not deleted.
He also posted a message congratulating China's National day on October 1st last year and two days later, after his performance ended, he posted a photo with the audience on Weibo and wrote, "I love Chengdu a lot, see you next time." He also uploaded a video playing the violin on Weibo on the 2nd of the same month and the song he was playing was titled, "I love you China."
He was also under fire after appearing on 'Street Dance of China 4' in a scene where Chinese were dancing in the background wearing traditional Korean pansori and hanbok causing controversy.
Meanwhile, Henry's side is currently silent over the controversy.
