Former Korean Navy Seal-turned-YouTuber Lee Geun (38) has allegedly died in Ukraine.
On the 11th, various rumors began circulating in online communities including DC Inside stating that 3 Koreans, who were carrying out a special operation in Kyiv, have died.
The posts were a combination of Ukrainian text and Korean translation based on leaked Ukrainian documents. The posts alleged, "It has been confirmed that its Captain Lee and his team, who were discharged from Korea's Navy unit that died" and a local soldier shared some of the posts on Twitter.
However, its presumed to be fake news due to a serious error in the document itself. The document seems to have been manipulated by domestic netizens causing errors in translation through use of an automatic translator (Google).
There is no official announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rather, the Ministry filed a complaint with the National Police Agency on the 10th against 2 unidentified people who left the country with Lee Geun. According to the Ministry, excluding Lee's party and Crimea (Kirim) residents, a total of 28 Koreans are residents of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Lee Geun left Korea and volunteered to fight in the Ukraine-Russia war.
