Koreans are expressing anger over the rising cost for chicken delivery.
On the 13th, delivery platform Baemin announced they'll be changing how they calculate the delivery fee for drivers attracting attention.
Baemin will calculate fees based on "delivery distance based on expected travel route" compared to previous standard of "straight travel distance" from restaurant to the destination. The new standard will take into account whether driver travels through alleys to complete the delivery.
The system for short delivery services will also be changed and cost of delivery will be borne by the consumer. Customers can expect to be charged between 5,000 to 6,000 won for delivery.
Baemin will also be charging a "fare type system" to restaurant owners. It will charge 6.8% broker fee and 6,000 won for basic delivery, broker fee of 15% and 900 to 2,900 won for (basic plus) delivery and 27% broker fee and 27% delivery fee for an integrated model. The rate charged will depend on what plan the restaurant owner chooses. The fee paid by the platform to the driver will be different from the delivery fee paid by the customer.
Meanwhile, customers lamented over the rising costs stating, "every time I order food, I worry about the deliver cost but they're increasing it again?"
