Informant A's "toilet" photos are raising suspicions over alleged "timeline" of events.
On the 13th, whistleblower A attended Yang Hyun Suk's trial held at the Seoul Central District Court over alleged retaliatory threats. Yang Hyun Suk who watched the trial with the audience was accused of coercing and intimidating A to drop drug allegations against iKON's leader B.I.
A had previously claimed in court that "she met former CEO Yang Hyun Suk at his office on the 7th floor of YG's office building and was threatened to overturn her statements to police. She felt she had to leave evidence so when she got back her confiscated cell phone, she went to the bathroom on the 3rd or 4th floor and took a picture." The alleged photo mentioned by A was released in court.
During cross-examination, Yang's lawyer countered, "A's 'bathroom' picture that shows a YG campaign pamphlet that recommends bright greetings doesn't match A's timeline. That pamphlet was produced by YG from August to October 2014 and doesn't match the time of the "threat" incident in August 2016."
In addition, Yang's lawyer asked, "Instead of taking pictures while in the bathroom, you could've called your mother, a friend or 911, why didn't you do that?"
A replied, "At the time I was being escorted by a YG subsidiary employee B so it wasn't possible for me to report the threats since B was waiting in front of the bathroom."
However, Yang's lawyer pointed out, "But isn't there a private toilet with a powder room on the 7th floor? If the former CEO really threatened you like you're claiming I doubt he'd give you back your cell phone and make you use a toilet in another floor? Why did you feel the need to go with B and use a restroom on the 3rd or 4th floor?"
A replied in a furious tone, "I didn't even know there was a toilet in his private office. I just followed B's directions. Anyone can see that the photo was taken in YG's office building. That's an undeniable fact."
"Do you have proof of that?" A retorted, "No matter how much forensics you do, nothing was manipulated. Can't you check the document?" Yang's lawyer replied, "No. There's no such content in the report to confirm the authenticity of the toilet picture."
The layout of the bathroom also became a subject of contention. Yang lawyer shared A's bathroom photo and stated, "When I visited the bathroom on the 4th floor, the way the pamphlet was posted is different from your picture. Are you sure you took this from the bathroom you're claiming?"
A retorted, "I took the picture of the pamphlet posted on the back of the toilet compartment."
The lawyer countered, "I visited the place and saw that the pamphlet was posted on the other side of the toilet, so did you film the picture while squatting on the floor?"
A retorted, "It may have been on the 3rd or 4th floor."
Yang's lawyer countered again, "There's an artist only studio on the 3rd floor, even regular staff with fingerprint access can't enter."
A shared a puzzled look and replied, "The bathroom I went to wasn't that big. It's your typical women's restroom with 5 or 6 narrow toilet compartments."
The court judge stated, "Even though this situation was immediately after the witness claimed the (threat) incident happened, there are many aspects that haven't been fully revealed. A doesn't seem to know the place where the photo was taken that well. The defendant (Yang Hyun Suk) should submit a photo or video of the layout of the YG bathroom or the internal area where the incident happened."
Meanwhile, Yang Hyun Suk's final cross-examination of informant A will be held on the 20th.
