Investors are paying attention as to whether Blackpink Lisa renews her contract.
After rumors that renewals with Lisa were uncertain, YG Entertainment stocks went on a downward spiral plummeting over 8% revealing investors' deep anxiety about contract renewals.
On the same day, comments poured out on the YG Entertainment bulletin board in the online stock discussion room with investors writing, "Didn't they miss out on G-Dragon too? They should at least grab Lisa and renew with all of Blackpink? The company has to make sure she remains?!"
YG Entertainment announced on the 6th that "exclusive contract with G-Dragon has expired." G-Dragon was listed as a singer on YG's business report as of the end of last year however he was omitted on the quarterly report filed for March 31 this year.
Many opinions are pouring out that "it would be beneficial if Lisa stays in YG." One investor stated, "No matter how successful the idol group is, there has never been a case where the group's popularity continued an upward trend once a member left the team. Lisa needs to make a wise decision for her own benefit and for the sake of the group."
Other investors are asking that instead of immediately blaming Lisa, they should respect her opinions. One investor wrote, "Renewing after the contract expires is completely the individual's freedom."
Researcher Lee Hwa-jeong of NH Investment & Securities stated, "YG's quick statement is unusual. From Blackpink's point of view, future activities are more important as they're in the early stages of establishing themselves as global pop artists beyond K-pop. It'll be difficult if they change management companies right now from a company with abundant know-how."
Lee Ki-hoon, a researcher at Hana Securities stated, "Blackpink's contract renewal issue hasn't been officially concluded yet. Let's not take any risks until official news come out so that we can plan and raise target price accordingly after it's confirmed."
