Prosecutors have conducted raided Kim Man-bae's home on alleged conspiracy charges.
On the 6th, prosecutors, who are currently investigating Hwacheon Dae-yu major shareholder Kim Man-bae's "fake interview in Daejang-dong" conducted a search and seizure of his home and office.
Chief Kang Baek-sin of the Seoul Central District Court's 3rd Anti-Corruption Investigation Division stated on the morning of the 6th, "we're conducting a search and seizure of Kim's residence and office on suspicions of breach of trust and violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act."
In September 2021, Kim Man-bae held a fake interview with former Newstapa head Shin Hak-rim to the effect of, "President Seok-yeol Yoon had covered up the case of Cho Woo-hyung, a loan broker in Daejang-dong, in the Busan Savings Bank investigation when he was a prosecutor and handed over 65 million won (bribe)."
Newstapa, where Shin served as an advisor, reported the interview between Kim and Shin on March 6, 2022, 3 days before the presidential election. In an interview, Kim stated, "In 2011, when the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Central Investigation Department investigated allegations of insolvent loans at Busan Savings Bank, I introduced lawyer Park Young-soo to loan broker Cho Woo-hyung, and Park, who was the chief prosecutor in this case, worked hard with Yoon Seok-yeol, the 2nd division chief of the Supreme Prosecutor's office, to resolve Cho Woo-hyung's case."
Before and after the report, pro-Democratic Party media reported false information that "Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol served Cho coffee during the 2011 investigation and that Yoo Seok-yeol is the 'body of Daejang-dong."
According to the prosecution's investigation, this interview was "fake news" created by Kim Man-bae to turn the direction of 'Daejang-dong suspicions' from Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung to the People's Power candidate Yoon Seok-yeol. Kim Man-bae was captured in a call stating, "Lee Jae-myeong is on the same boat with us. Lee Jae-myeong must live, so we can live."
After conducting the fake interview with Shin Hak-rim, Kim told Cho Woo-hyung, "Your brother is going to the wilderness. He's going in the wrong direction. He'll either follow along or go quietly. He won't say anymore until after the case is all sorted out. Then everything will be over. The person in 'Daejang-dong' in Yoo Dong-gyu, so if you do an interview, say that."
Meanwhile, prosecutors have requested an arrest warrant on suspicions of "destruction of evidence" however the warrant was thrown out of court by the judge.
