Former FT Island member, Choi Jong-hoon, has been arrested.
Judge Song Kyung-ho of the Seoul District Court issued an arrest warrant for Choi Jong-hoon who is accused of violating the law on punishment of violent crimes, saying, "The charges of crime are clear but there is concern of evidence destruction." This makes Choi the second celebrity to be arrested after Jung Joon-young among the celebrities involved in 'Burning Sun Gate'.
The judge also issued an arrest warrant for a man, an older brother of a well-known girl group member saying, "Many of the charges are clear, the case is grave. There are also huge concerns of destroying evidence."
On the other hand, an arrest warrant for an employee of an entertainment agency was rejected. The judge said, "There is room to argue over the allegations so we need to guarantee the right to defend himself without detention. Given the suspect's family and social ties, it's difficult to recognize the need, and reason for his arrest."
Earlier that day, Choi Jong-hoon appeared at the Seoul court for questioning at 10:00am. At 10:30am, the Seoul Central District Court reviewed arrests for 3 people, including Choi Jong-hoon, and two others, also accused of violating the law on punishment of sexual assault and crime. Choi Jong-hoon made an appearance in court that morning wearing a suit, glanced at the reporters and entered the court quickly with a firm expression. He didn't answer any of questions by reporters who had been waiting. Two hours later, he left the court in cuffs.
Choi Jong-hoon is suspected of having sexually assaulted as a group, a woman 'A' in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province in 2016, after they drank alcohol together. He was called in for investigation by police on March 30th but denied the allegations.
