A complaint has been filed with the prosecution for media outlets that revealed whistleblower in 'YG case'.
Back in June, when allegations of drug purchase against former iKON member and leader B.I first broke, the news took the industry by storm. An informant allegedly revealed to the commission that B.I's drug charges in 2016 hadn't been investigated properly and that former YG Entertainment Executive Yang Hyuk Suk had allegedly appointed a lawyer for the informant 'A' [Han Seo Hee] to prevent her testimony.
A reporter [Choi] then released an "exclusive" article revealing the informant's name and MBC exposed the informant's name publicly on their main news program 'News Desk'.
Singer B.I allegedly inquired about a drug purchase from whistle-blower 'A' in April 2016 through a katalk message |
According to the commission, exposing a whistle-blower without their consent is a crime punishable with a prison sentence up to 5 years and a fine of up to 50 million won.
The commission has determined that Hwang Sun-il and MBC violated the 'Public Interest Reporter Protection Act' that prohibits the act of informing or reporting on those that haven't provided consent.
As a result, the commission has filed a complaint with the prosecution against MBC and other reporters in the case and are pursuing judgement.
