Source: STAR News
Yongsan Police have opened an official investigation into Jungkook's traffic accident.
Seoul Yongsan Police booked the BTS maknae on the 8th on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and the Special Act on the Handling of Traffic Accidents.
A police official revealed to STAR News on the 8th, "Jungkook was booked after we received confirmation that the taxi driver was harmed. Settlement is a personal matter and may also be a factor in normal considerations but it doesn't affect the indictment. We have opened an official investigation into the accident and we're investigating Jungkook for gross negligence."
The official continued, "under current law, traffic accidents due to gross negligence can be subject to criminal penalties whether or not a settlement was reached with the victim."
When asked whether Jungkook caused the accident because he was trying to avoid an illegal parked vehicle, the official stated "that is not the case. That's not true."
The police have yet to schedule a date to summon Jungkook for questioning.
- [+762, -66] The most important thing is no one was seriously hurt. Although he already admitted to the mistake, apologized, and agreed to a settlement with the victim this is normal procedure for Traffic Act violations so I hope he complies and concludes this as soon as possible.
- [+594, -64] Looks like the cab driver submitted his medical prognosis in accordance with the procedure. I'm sure he'll be investigated according to the law and fined. There's no need to fan the flames and give him hate. There's no need to shield him either.
- [+400, -44] He came to an agreement with the victim and the damage was minor. But because they confirmed he violated the Road Traffic Act they have to investigate him. I hope it gets resolved quickly.
- [+328, -152] Apparently the accident was on a five-lane highway...why were the fans shielding him?ã…‹ã…‹
- [+141, -112] What gives me goosebumps is that Jungkook was posting Overwatch videos on Twitter barely half a day after the accident. If he felt sorry for the victim at all, I don't think he could've done that.
- [+129, -13] The police are only reacting like this because Jungkook is a huge celebrity. I mean if this was a normal person they would've just called the insurance company and come to an agreement and finalized it. Even police doing a sobriety test like that was too much ã…‹ã…‹they don't do that with the general public
- [+122, -99] I keep losing respect for him each time his fans keep shielding him.
- [+83, -56] Why are fans swearing at the journalist when he's only reporting it ã…‹ã…‹
- [+57, -16] So the police are saying that he didn't cause the traffic accident because he was trying to avoid an illegally parked vehicle . I can't believe his fans on 'DC' had the audacity to release a statement like that ã…‹
- [+44, -15] Isn't this the same journalist that got slighted from asking a question at their 'Persona' press conference??
- [+41, -1] Police are comical...just recently Jang Yong Joon caused a drunk driving accident, changed drivers and even paid bribes to the victim but they didn't investigate him for "gross negligence ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹
- [+24, -2] I'm not a BTS fan or anything but this is a little ~~
