Article reveals an analytics report by Mobile Index that shows monthly active users for popular Chinese app 'Tik Tok' increased from 3.77 million in July last year to 4.13 million this year. Currently, 8 out of every 100 Koreans use Tik Tok at least once a month.
Tik Tok frequently offers promotions to get more users to sign up with one ad stating, "You can get up to 400,000 won if you invite a friend. If you don't download TikTok, you're a fool!"
In August last year, a list of 'Must Delete Chinese Apps' with 50-70 app icons written by Korean users spread on social media and online communities. The list encouraged users to delete Chinese apps listed stating, "If you use Chinese apps, there's a risk your personal information will be leaked."
Meanwhile, Chinese apps Tik Tok, Ali Express and Xiao Mi's 'Red Mi Note 8' phone have been under suspicion of collecting personal information to include user's voice and face characteristics, biometrics, card information, internet browsing history and app usage records sending them over to remote servers in Singapore and Russia.
