Many fans were shocked when Blackpink Jennie delivered an X-rated 19+ performance in her acting debut. Some are criticizing YG, the agency, for not being able to manage their artists at all. 

On the 5th, the first episode of US HBO series 'The Idol' was released. The work starred Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose Depp and drew attention in Korea as this was Jennie's drama debut. 

Jennie also appeared on the red carpet at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival with the 'The Idol' while promoting with Blackpink. Since she went all the way to Cannes with one series, the fans' shoulders went up as well. 

However, Jennie's appearance in 'The Idol' was in itself, shocking. Jennie, who usually had an elegant image, disappeared without a trace, even though she also served as an ambassador for a luxury brand company C. Jennie appeared wearing a bra top and shorts and sensually danced mid-air with several male dancers. The issue is that her performance was too X-rated to the point that people were reminded of "sex" when watching. Also, rather than showing the performance itself, the camera angle highlights Jennie's body and facial expressions that caused shock. 

Viewers watching got into heated debates with some claiming "it was just a simple screenplay," and "it's amazing to be in an American drama," and "this is too much" etc., came out. Others pointed out, "If this is what it truly was, why was Jennie even invited?"

However, criticism from foreign media also gave strength to negative reactions one after the other. Variety called the drama, "a lecherous male fantasy." Rolling Stone gave the drama a 10 out of 100 rating and stated, "This drama looks at young female idols with a predatory gaze."

The arrow of criticism was directed at the agency YG. As it was Jennie's first acting debut, her fans' expectations were huge. That expectation turned into disappointment. It's said that management who let Jennie's appear in such an X-rated drama that only sensationally used her talent was regrettable.

There are actors who have also attracted attention through debut in 19+ rated films, for example, Kim Go-eun, who performed in an unconventional bed scene in film 'Eungyo' and Kim Tae-ri who made her name known through 'The Handmaiden.' 

In Jennie's case, she cannot be placed in the same category. In 'The Idol', Jennie only spoke 3-4 lines. It's not an amount that can be used to evaluate acting ability and talents. All you remember as a viewer is her X-rated 19+ dance. 

Jennie, who took on her first acting challenge once said, "It was just an opportunity to be myself and be brave." Did she make a gamble-like choice to leap forward as an "actress?" It's Jennie's 'D idol' that had more losses than gains. It's regretful that we'll never know what could've happened if only she had been more careful in selecting her works. 

Meanwhile, insiders have revealed that it was Jennie's "will" and "choice" to appear in the drama.
