Samsung is in panics because of the latest 'iPhone trend' among famous idols.
In a situation where the younger generation is leaning towards iPhone, famous celebrities are releasing selcas taken with iPhone through SNS everyday. The popularity of foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 5 that was released to break the image that 'Galaxy = Dad Phone' could also be halved further raising concerns for Samsung.
Popular girl group IVE's Ahn Yu-jin also took a selca showing off her bob style on SNS. The iPhone Yu-jin is holding is attracting a lot of attention as much as her new short bob.
Even Blackpink who previous worked as Samsung Galaxy models revealed their use of iPhones after concluding contract. Jisoo wrote, "Wow, barely changed it! New phone, cute case."
At the time, many comments were posted criticizing members for "being ruthless after the contract was over" causing controversy.
Recently, New Jeans also became iPhone models and filmed their music video 'ETA' with an iPhone. They were also discovered going on stage to perform and filmed with an iPhone causing controversy.
According to a recent survey conducted by Gallup Korea, the younger generation's preference for iPhones is getting worse. Among domestic users, those aged 18-29 had an overwhelmingly high iPhone ratio of 65% with only 32% with a Samsung Galaxy. Analysts say that famous celebrities' preference for iPhones is effecting iPhone use by younger generations.
Regarding the problematic increasing iPhone purchase bias among teens and 20s generation, Samsung CEO Roh Tae-moon stated, "It isn't desirable that there's a such a high preference at a certain age and low for another." Parents lamented, "I'm getting headaches because kids are begging to buy an iPhone after seeing celebrity selcas."
