Idols are being merciless after contracts end. Samsung's Galaxy "idol marketing" is actually becoming a boomerang. Male idol group Boynextdoor is causing controversy flaunting iPhones at the airport as soon as their contract with Samsung ended.
According to an industry insider on the 14th, as soon as their contract with Samsung ended, Boynextdoor took selcas at the airport and showed off their Apple products such as iPhone 16 and Airpods Max that are in competition with Samsung.
Many articles titled, "Boynextdoor, who are sponsored by Galaxy and used Galaxy, but then brag about switching to iPhone in front of of their fans as soon as contract ended" were also posted. Boynextdoor is a group by KOZ Entertainment, a subsidiary of HYBE.
While some responded with "who cares", many are expressing disappointment writing, "so reckless.." "They didn't need to cause a fuss about it.." "Seems rude to do this after your contract ends.." "Really thoughtless of them.."
Another netizen criticized, "You're free to switch phones after your contract ends but bragging about it as just being rude to the sponsor." Many netizens wrote, "Don't sponsor them ever again!"
Samsung is also said to be quite displeased. Samsung even sent a coffee truck to Boynextdoor with the phrase, "Galaxy cheers for the future of Boynextdoor, shining like stars in the night sky."
Inside and outside of Samsung, there are criticisms that "this is too much" and that a complete review of Galaxy celebrity marketing is necessary. This is because when famous idols or celebrities collaborate with Samsung for marketing, they immediately switch to iPhones once their contracts end. As a result, Galaxy celebrity marketing is actually becoming a boomerang. Samsung is the one spending the money, but it is having the opposite effect of highlighting only iPhones.
Previously, a post titled, "No mercy when contracts end" and a video showing Blackpink, who were Galaxy models, switching to iPhones en masse embarrassed Samsung.
An industry insider stated, "smartphones don't have a big celebrity marketing effect. It'd be less pretentious and more honest to appeal to customers by collaborating with idols who are true Samsung Galaxy fans."

Idols quitting Samsung for iPhones is becoming a huge societal "disloyalty" issue in Korea. Many top idols for ex. BTS, Blackpink, IVE, New Jeans have also been caught using iPhones causing controversy.
