Netizens are in deep anger over a poster shifting blame to women for hidden camera crimes.
A poster with a photo of a woman asking to "cover up your skirt with a bag" to prevent hidden camera crimes was recently shared on social media and has gone viral.
The poster warns and cautions women using escalators or stairs by showing a photo of a woman wearing a skirt and says, "Illegal filming often occurs from behind. In order not be victim of hidden camera, always look behind you. Riding sideways is also effective. Press back of your skirt with a bag."
The poster then depicts a man holding a cell phone bewildered saying, "huh, there are no gaps."
The poster went viral and netizens left angry comments writing, "Wouldn't it have been more effective to ask men not to do hidden cameras? Why shift the blame to the victim for a perpetrator's crimes?"
Meanwhile, a man was recently arrested in Tokyo for illegally filming a woman's private parts and while fleeing from police fell under a bridge.
- [+372, -184] What's wrong with asking women to take responsibility by being cautious?
- [+289, -132] This needs some interpretation. No one is saying hidden camera is victim's responsibility. But rather the poster is warning to avoid becoming a victim. Just like signs telling you be careful when going through a cross walk by crossing when the proper signal is out to prevent an accident. If you get stabbed while walking around at night, even after they warned you about it being dangerous, how is this not the victim's fault? No, victim also has a responsibility to think about preventing crime in advance. Do you want to get filmed and regret afterwards..?
- [+132, -35] It's problematic because they're asking women to be careful without any warning message aimed at criminals. Shouldn't they have warned criminals they'll get years in prison and 10 million won fine if they do hidden camera? But no, the poster only shifted blame to women and asked them to cover up.
- [+30, -23] Korea is a haven to drunk drivers and sex criminals too..
- [+29, -15] No matter how much you hate Japan, there's no need to take it this far ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ. They put this up to prevent the crime in advance not shift responsibility to the victim. How are people even getting that from the poster? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ. Isn't it your responsibility to lock your house??? What about setting a password to your bank card? Isn't it your responsibility to maintain a safe distance while driving??? This is an era where criminals are set free to roam the streets so you need to do the bare minimum to stay safe.
- [+17, -5] How is covering up with a bag effective in preventing hidden camera anyway? Aside from the blatant lack of awareness, people really have no brains. Criminals even go around with hidden cameras attached to shoes so how does covering up with a bag prevent that? What about public toilets? Instead of writing stupid posters like this, they should be installing hidden camera detectors and increasing punishments for sex crimes.
- [+16, -18] This is the level of the Japanese. A country where the perpetrator can cosplay as a victimㅋㅋㅋ. So many Japanese right-wingers in the comments...ugh the worst trash!
- [+11, -14] Their country has really gone backwards..
